Search by activity, location, and/or date
GetActiveGP.ca is a resource for our region of all things healthy and active. Website users are able to search for events, activities, sport/activity clubs and fitness/recreation facilities. The clubs, facilities, associations, or businesses offering active and healthy events can post them on the website for FREE. This is so everyone has an opportunity to find something to do that is fun, active and healthy.
In the summer of 2012, the Grande Prairie Get Active Network was approched by the facilitators of the Active Community Strategy initiative, a program of the Alberta Recreation and Parks Association, to become involved with the Strategy. The goal of the Active Community Strategy was to help build capacity in communities to build a framework for helping get their community more active. Of course, we accepted the challenge!
The first thing we needed to do was look at what Grande Prairie and Area was missing in terms of active living. We sent out a survey to community members via email to find this out and had over 240 people respond. One of the common responses was that people don't hear about a lot of active healthy events until they are over, there needs to be a one-stop-shop for people to find out about active events or clubs in the area.
In 2013, Grande Prairie and Area finally have that one-stop-shop to find all active and healthy events, clubs and facilities. The launch of GetActiveGP.ca will be a turning point to help our region be more active, more often.
