Last weekend, the Grande Prairie Get Active Network (GPGAN) was recognized by Communities ChooseWell for its efforts in providing active and healthy opportunities in Grande Prairie. The GPGAN took home two awards in the 50,000+ population category, the Building Community Capacity award and the Overall High Achiever award which came with a $2,000 grant.
Communities ChooseWell is an energizing healthy eating and active living initiative supported by Alberta Health and managed by the Alberta Recreation and Parks Association. The goal of Communities ChooseWell is to foster healthy Alberta citizens and communities through education, community capacity building, and partnerships that support healthy eating, active living and social wellbeing.
The GPGAN had a busy year in 2013, organizing and running the Amazing Race at Municipal Government Day, developing its amazing new website thanks to the Active Community Strategy, being a part of Get Outdoors Alberta with the Be Fit For Life Centre in April, and the "Battle of the Blenders" Iron Chef event at Grande Prairie Regional College. The GPGAN is also working with Mountview Neighbourhood Association to gather funding for their outdoor fitness park.
Already, 2014 will be another busy year for the Grande Prairie Get Active Network. Stay tuned to www.getactivegp.ca for more information
