UWALK is a new program aimed at getting Albertan's more physically active through walking.  Funded by the Government of Alberta and developed by the University of Alberta's Faculty of Physical Education and Recreation, UWALK will help you meet physical activity requirements for health and keep you moving.

Through research done at the University of Alberta, it was found that 74% of Albertan's do some sort of walking, either for work, transport or recreation.  However, 85% of Canadians do not reach the minimum requirements of physical activity and spend almost 70% of their waking hours sitting.  UWALK's goal is to help you achieve the recommended physical activity requirements and give you the tool's to get started and "Find Your Stride"! has many tools to help you on your journey to regular physical activity. Some of the features of the website include:
  • Track your physcial activity online to complete a personal or group challenge
  • Connect with friends, family and coworkers
  • Get information on the benefits of regular walking and physical activity
  • Receive tokens for meeting walking goals
  • Track your progress
All you need to participate is a pedometer (did you know that just by wearing a pedometer you can increase you daily physical activity by 2000 steps?), and to sign up on the website.  There is NO cost to signing up at  If a pedometer is not your thing, you can enter the amount of time you participated in moderate or vigorous intensity physical activty and the website will do the conversion for you.
